The disease can attack any part of the esophagus but more often affects the lowest part. This disease mostly affects men than women according to research. Poor indigestion results from acid reflux to the esophagus. Therefore, the mucus on the lining of the esophagus is removed by the acid leaving the coating exposed to the acid. This causes the rough surface cracks leading to the abnormal growth of cells hence cancer.
