People Have Started Wearing Safety Pins In Public. Wait Till You See The Reason Why!

If you happen to be in Britain anytime soon, keep an eye out for people wearing little safety pins on their clothes. Since the surprising EU referendum result last week, the people of the UK have been seriously shocked. The decision to leave the European Union is one that was somewhat unexpected and many feel that it sends out the wrong message to immigrants in the country. In fact, some people think that this move will tell people that they are not welcome in the country at all.

So, what does all this have to do with safety pins? Well, it all started when Twitter user, @cheeahs, wrote: “I’d like to come up with something that can be made by anybody anywhere to pin on their jacket or coat to signify that they are an ally. A safe person to sit next to on a bus, walk next to on a street, even have a conversation with.”

“I quite like the idea of just putting a safety pin, empty of anything else, on your coat. A literal SAFETY pin!” she continued. And so, the idea was born and it caught on seriously quickly.

Since then, loads of people have been uploading pictures of themselves with a safety pin attached to their clothes. While the idea to show solidarity like this is a sweet one, it is a sad thing to think that we actually need to do this. It seems to suggest that since the results of last week’s vote, non-British people actually feel scared in the country.

As you probably already know, the referendum caused a whole lot of controversy. Many people have called out those who voted to ‘leave’ the EU as being racists. Since the results were confirmed, there has been a lot of speculation on social media about what will happen next for the nation.
