It is very important to pay attention to the signs and symptoms that can indicate undiagnosed cancer. If detected in early stages the chances of treating it are high. Check these symptoms which you must not ignore even though they may not necessarily point to cancer.
- Sudden loss of weight – it is usual for those who have solid tumors such as breast and lung cancer. This condition appears when the cancer goes to the liver and weakens it function (regulating appetite and remove toxins). Loss of weight can also point to colon cancer. Weight loss is usual and almost 40% of cancer patients have sudden weight loss when they are diagnosed, while 80% of the patients who are in advanced stages also have sudden weight loss.
- Strange pain which lasts more than a month – if this happens, then you have to visit a doctor as it may be a sign of bone or testicular cancer.
- Bleeding – if there is blood in the urine it may indicate UTI, caused by kidney or bladder cancer. Blood in the stools can indicate bowel cancer. Bleeding after menopause on in between the periods can be a sign of uterine and endometrial cancer. Bleeding from the GI tract may be a sign of colorectal cancer. If you sough up and vomit blood it may show lung cancer, esophageal, or stomach cancer. And if there is bleeding and immoderate bruising, then it may indicate leukemia.
- Pelvic pain or pain in the abdomen – this may indicate ovarian cancer. Those women who have never conceived, have had colorectal, breast, or ovarian cancer, and also those who have previously been diagnosed with uterine, rectum, colon, or breast cancer.
- Constant heartburn – this is generally a symptom of acid reflux, but if it repeats constantly, then it may be a sign of esophageal cancer or Barrett’s esophagus.
- Bloating – his may indicate ovarian cancer, especially if it is accompanied when you feel full, if your abdomen is swollen, and if you feel pain in the pelvic area.
- Being out of breath or wheezing – this may be generated by other conditions, this may be related to lung cancer. The tumor in lungs presses and narrows the airway and causes wheezing.
- Constant infections or fevers – prolonged or persistent fever can indicate lymphoma. Also, leukemia can have symptoms such as fatigue, infections, aches, fevers (flu-like symptoms).
- Nails change – this may indicate lung, skin, or liver cancer. If there are spots which appear blackish or brownish under the nails it may indicate skin cancer. Also, if the toes and fingers start clubbing, then it may indicate lung cancer. And finally, if the nails are white or pale, this may denote poor liver function, caused by different conditions, including liver cancer.
- Unusual lumps or swelling – if there appears uncommon pain in the groin area, the testicles, breasts, abdomen, neck, underarms, or other body parts, you need to visit a physician for examination, especially if the pain persists for more than 3 weeks. An enlarged lump under the armpit can sometimes indicate breast cancer. This type of cancer can be indicated through red, swollen, and sore breasts.
- Skin moles or spots that are new or start changing – you will have to visit a doctor if you notice new spots, sores, or growths on the skin that do not heal, or if there is a change in the diameter, border, symmetry, or color of the mole that you previously had.
- Pain in the chest – lung tumors or leukemia can mimic symptoms of cough or bronchitis and the nuisance can continue or happen repeatedly. Pain in the chest may appear, extending to shoulders or stretch towards the arm. If the voice becomes hoarse or you have cough for a longer period of time, especially if you smoke or you used to smoke, pay a visit to your doctor. This may be an indication of lung, esophageal, thyroid, or laryngeal cancer.
- Jaundice – this is when the whites of the eyes and the skin turn yellow. This may be a symptom of liver disease, or gallbladder, but can also show indications of pancreatic cancer.
- Bowel problems – if there is not an obvious reason for change in bowel movements which lasts for a month, or longer, it may be a sign of bowel cancer, especially in older people.
- Exhaustion and weakness – after getting some sleep if they do not go away, then you have to consult a doctor.
- Trouble while swallowing – if you have a feeling that there is food in your throat or your chest that worsens by the time passes, it may be a sign of esophageal or throat cancer. Pain when swallowing and burning sensation may also appear.
