Most people throw pencils away after they can no longer use them. However, there is a cool use for pencils. You can stick the pencil in a seed pod with dirt, water it and give it sunlight. In a few days, you will have a sprout. Soon after that, you will have a full-grown plant. This idea was started by a group of students at the Massachusetts Institute Of Technology back in 2012. They created a kickstarter to raise money for the project, and their idea was noticed by a Danish sustainability consultant.

What started off as a simple idea has now become very lucrative. Over 450,000 pencils are sold each year. The pencils can also come with different seeds. The World Wildlife Fund, TedX and Bank Of America are some of the companies that have used these unique pencils.
