Pediatricians Warning Against Crib Bumpers!

We often put baby bumpers on their cribs to prevent our babies from banging there limbs or heads on the hard surfaces. After watchingthe video below you may think twice about using them. Experts say the dangers of this common baby accessory are very real, and potentially fatal.

Many infants lack the motor development needed to free themselves when they become wedged between the bumper pad and another surface,”Dr.Bradley Thach, professor of pediatrics at St.Louis Children’s Hospital, told ABC News.
The American Academy of Pediatrics is now saying parents should not use padded bumpers because of the terrifying risks, like asphyxiation and suffocation.

However, many parents are unaware of the dangers and is still available online and in countless stores across the country. Bumper pads were actually the cause of 77 infant deaths between 1995 and 2012.

Dr. Bradley Thach, professor of pediatrics at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, told ABC News:“If the pads are too soft, the baby’s nose or face can get pressed up against it, and the baby suffocates. If they are too firm, the baby can climb up on the pads and fall out of the crib.”

In 2013 the Daily Mail reported an awful story about a mothers horrific ordeal after she found her baby dead in his crib as his neck was entangled in the bumper material!
So far in the U.S, the state of Maryland and the city of Chicago have banned the sale of bumper pads.
