Allergenic Molds

On danger scale, allergenic molds are on the low. They can cause problems only to people with asthma. Children are more predisposed to have mold allergies.

Pathogenic Molds

Pathogenic molds can cause infections. Those who have suppressed immune system can suffer from these molds. Bacterial pneumonia is usually found in people exposed to pathogenic molds.

Toxigenic Molds

Like the name says, toxigenic mold produces mycotoxins that are associated with immune suppression or cancer.

When a person touch this kind of molds, eats them or inhale them, the body quickly absorbs the toxic chemicals found inside.

These are the most common indoor molds:

Alternaria: it is found in the mouth, nose and upper respiratory tract; can initiate allergic responses.

Aspergillus: it is found in warm places and in the house dust: this produces mycotoxins which can cause lung infections.

Cladosporium: this mold grows on wood, textiles and other damp; can cause fever and asthma symptoms.

Penicillium: it can be found on wallpaper, carpet, decaying fabrics, and fiberglass duct insulation; usually causes asthma and allergies, and some species produce penicillin.

Stachybotrys: also known as “black mold” and it is extremely toxic; the mycotoxins that this mold produces can initiate serious breathing difficulties. Mostly it is found on paper or wood.

A mold allergy is the most usual problem that is caused by exposure to mold, but sometimes some illness can appear without an allergic reaction.
