Be Careful What You Buy: What do Those Numbers on Stickers of Fruits Mean?

You must have noticed the stickers especially on the bananas, apples, oranges and tangerines when you buy fresh fruit. What do they actually mean?
Here are the basics of what you should know:
- If there are only four numbers in the code and the number starts with the numbers ‘’3’’ or ‘’4’’, this means that the produce was grown conventionally or “traditionally” with the use of pesticides.
- If there are five numbers in the code, and the number starts with “8”, this tells you that the product is genetically modified.
- If there are five numbers in the code, and the number starts with “9”, this tells you that the produce was grown organically and is not genetically modified. You should always choose the fruits with this type of code on stickers.
