Everyone has heard and used WD-40 at least once in their life. WD-40 is a cleaning agent, lubricant, and an anti-corrosive product, which can be quite handy around the house. The name WD-40 actually means Water Displacement – 40th Attempt. The person behind the product wanted to design a formula which would prevent corrosion, and was successful at his 40th attempt, as you may have assumed.
We all know the basic uses for WD-40. We use it for cleaning tools and sports equipment, it prevents rust, lubricates sticky drawers, fixes squeaky hinges, displaces moisture etc. But there are a couple of innovative uses for this product which we bet you didn’t know, but can be a real life-changer.

Safety Notice: Even though everyone uses it and it’s generally considered a safe-product, WD-40 is petroleum based, which means that it’s highly flammable. Remove a stuck ring

We’ve all been there, pulling and tugging that annoying ring but it just won’t come off. Don’t fall into despair; WD-40 comes to the rescue. Just spray a short burst and the ring will slide right off. Don’t forget to wash your hands afterwards!

Remove chewing gum from hair

Chewing gums gets stuck into your hair quite often and it’s your worst nightmare. But hold off on the scissors, WD-40 is the solution for you. You just need to spray some WD-40 on the tangled gum and you can comb it out without problems. Just be careful not to get in contact with the eyes and spray it outside or in a well ventilated area.

Remove tea stains from countertops

Tea stains can really be difficult to wipe off especially if you don’t react immediately. The easiest way is to spray some WD-40 on a damp sponge and wipe the stain away.

Clean toilet bowls

Nobody wants to clean gunk and lime stains from the toilet, but someone just has to. Why not do it the easiest way possible by using WD-40. Spray it inside the bowl for a few seconds and just brush it a bit with a toilet brush. The compounds in WD-40 will help you get rid of the gunk and lime by dissolving it with ease.

Make your boots and shoes waterproof

WD-40 coating can make your boots waterproof. Spray some on them and it will act as a water barrier and prevent moisture from getting inside your shoes. You can also use it to remove the nasty salt stains from your boots which usually appear from the snow in winter. All you need to do is spray some on the shoes and wipe it with a clean cloth. They’ll be as good as new.

Prevent snow buildup on windows

You can’t control the weather and stop the snow from falling but you can protect your windows from the snow buildup quite simple. Spray some WD-40 on the outside of your house’s windows before the snow starts falling and you’ll have snow-free windows this winter.

Remove super glue from your hands (and every other surface)

Super glue can be really tricky to remove from your skin which makes it super-annoying. Bu don’t worry, WD-40 can save you from your trouble. Just spray some on the sticky fingers and rub your hands against each other until they’re no longer sticky. You can also use it to remove super glue from any other surface just the same.
Loosen zippers

Zippers can get stuck and difficult to move up and down quite often. This happens with the jackets, jeans, backpacks and everything else and can even cause the zipper to brake. To prevent this and restore the zippers’ functionality spray some WD-40 and move the zipper up and down a few times to distribute the lubricant over the entire surface. If you think it may stain your clothes, spray it on a piece of plastic and apply it with a small brush on the zipper.

Remove stickers from glass windows

A lot of people put stickers on the glass without thinking that it’s extremely hard to get off when you want to. Soap and water don’t always do the trick, especially if the stickers have been on the windows for a long time. Spray some WD-40 on the sticker and leave it on for a couple of minutes. Use a no-scratch spatula and scrape the sticker off. WD-40 has some solvents which make the sticker lose its stickiness.

Clean carpet stains

Any type of stain can easily be removed with WD-40. Spray the stain and leave it in for a few minutes. Take a sponge and some warm soapy water and gently cleanse the stain until it’s gone.
