Teen Suffers Three Heart Attacks In One Day For Surprisingly Simple Reason

You don’t typically hear about a 19-year-old having a heart attack, let alone three in one day suddenly in an otherwise healthy teen, but that was the terrifying case one morning as a “bubbly” girl was simply standing in her parent’s bathroom talking to her mother about the fun night out she had the evening before. Her chest jolted and she fell to the ground, but what caused it was traced back to one common activity and beverage of choice.
U.K. teen Jayde Dinsdale went out the night before to a local bar that was having a shots special on Jagerbombs, an alcoholic beverage consisting of Jagermeister liquor and the Red Bull energy drink. The drink deal was a steal at two for the price of one, and being a frugal imbiber, Jayde took advantage of it and maybe had a few too many shots. But it wasn’t the alcohol that made her drop dead on the bathroom floor, it was the excessive amount of caffeine in the energy drink portion.
Miraculously, the teen was brought back to life, but now, a year later, she wants to warn others — of all ages — the danger that’s within those drinks. Jayde describes her incredible but scary story in hopes of helping others avoid an untimely demise.
Dinsdale was mid-sentence to her mother, Natalie Dinsdale, when she collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. “Her pulse was very faint and she started to go purple,” Natalie said, before Jayde’s father rushed in and began performing CPR until paramedics could arrive. Jayde suffered two more heart attacks and was technically deceased before paramedics were able to bring her back to life using defibrillators. She was rushed to an area hospital where she was placed into a medically induced coma for a total of 52 grueling hours.
Jayde is lucky to be alive today thanks to the quick action by her parents, responders, and physicians. Doctors described that the condition did not occur as a result of the alcohol, it happened after the effects of the alcohol left her system, and the high levels of the caffeine stepped in and accelerated her heart rate, which had been subdued some from the liquor.
“I think it is pretty bad that people sell these drinks.” Jayde said.
“You’ve no idea how much caffeine is in them and how dangerous they can be.
I hope people will think twice about drinking energy drinks – they could be deadly.”
Although alcohol consumption shouldn’t happen in anyone underage and even for those of legal age should only be in moderation, the issue is that anyone, of any age, can purchase energy drinks. The popularity of these beverages are on the rise, while the age of those who drink them is dropping.
Dr. David Maritz at Yeovil District Hospital noted the dangers of energy drinks, explaining that adverse effects are a potential in anyone, even those without pre-existing medical conditions.
“Given the potential for harm as seen from reviews and reports of toxicity in medical literature, it suggests children and young adults, especially those with predisposing medical conditions, are potentially at risk from serious adverse effects from excessive consumption of energy drinks,” Dr. Martiz said.
There needs to be stronger regulation or at least more awareness of the harm these drinks can cause, especially since an increasing number of people around the world are chugging them to get that needed boost throughout the day. But they are a cash cow for manufacturers and money tends to override morals and public safety.
