She Went To The Doctor With Stomach Pain, But When He Saw 12,000 Of THESE In Her He Screamed

Kolkata, India-native Minati Mondal had been suffering from horrible stomach pains in addition to acid reflux for two long months. She finally managed to make it to the local hospital recently, where doctors made an absolutely stunning find.

They discovered that the 51-year-old Mondal had gallstones stuffed inside of her body – first 5,000 were discovered, surprising doctors even further. An hour later, doctors estimate a total of 12,000 gallstones were removed in total!

Mondal must be feeling rather light on her feet after getting all of those stones out of her body. While they once were disrupting crucial digestive processes, now they were finally gone.

“I was astonished to see the large number of stones that we extracted from the gall bladder of this patient,” said Dr. Makhan Lala Saha, who performed the laparoscopic surgery. “I had never thought a gall bladder could contain so many stones.”

Dr. Saha had to enlist the help of many assistants to help count all the tiny stones – wearing double-layered rubber gloves of course. 4 hours later, the assistants concluded that there were, in fact, 12,000 stones between 2 mm and 5 mm in size.

While Dr. Saha has performed some high-profile surgeries before, he speculates that this one is possibly a world record – and a personal achievement regardless.

“Two months ago, I had operated on a girl who had 1,110 stones but despite the shocking number, I found that in 1983, doctors in Britain had removed 3,110 stones from a German patient’s gall bladder,” said Dr. Saha. “But I feel this number can replace the past record since the current number is three times more than the record.”
