Sperm in a normal and healthy condition: sticky and gelatinous substance with blurred white or grayish color, which within 30 minutes becomes translucent.
Taste: Due to the presence of fructose it has a slightly sweet taste. Usually the taste is individual, depending on the diet.
Smell: It has a smell of chlorine
The most common changes:
Thick or lumpy sperm
The sperm can be dense because of dehydration, this is a temporary condition. A serious cause for such sperm is low testosterone (male hormone).
Visit your doctor if your semen is abnormal more than two to three weeks.
Red or brown sperm
If your sperm has a red or brown color, it is likely to happen because of a burst blood vessel in the prostate. It can happen at normal ejaculation within and lasts for one to two days, after which it should regain its normal color. It may be caused by infection, trauma, or rare carcinoma.
Green or yellow sperm
Normal sperm must not have pure white or slightly yellowish tint. However, sperm that has emphatic yellow or green color, alludes to an infection, probably due to sexually transmitted diseases.
Unpleasant smell of sperm
Unpleasant smell of semen is almost always a sign of infection.
